A failed attempt and a fresh chance

Posted by Sharny on March 11, 2010

So we ended up getting lost in Derby, go us. Thankfully the venue were very understanding and offered us the chance to play next Monday instead. We've accepted and should be there to support established metallers Engines of Armageddon. This time we'll be taking enough maps to cover every eventuality and allow ourselves extra time as well. I might have to kill myself if we don't make it this time.

Short notice gig and do you have too much money?

Quick note to say that it looks like we're going to be playing in Derby on Monday at The Vaults alongside (or beneath, quite far beneath) Metal Cross and Blindsight. Came as late notice to us, but it should be fun. First time for Toad to hit the road and engage in all sorts of other cheesy punnery.

It also felt worth mentioning that if you have more money than you know what to do with (or perhaps your phone bill is paid by someone else) then you could vote for us in Surface Unsigned. You can do so by texting "Midlands 3148" to 64343. 16+. Texts cost £1.00 plus standard network charges. Please get permission from the bill payer. Customer services: festival@surfaceunsigned.co.uk or contact us on 0800 434 6076. Alternatively you could just give us a pound and it'd probably do us more good. Though we'd likely just spend it on sweets.

That's us for the moment. One day we might go to a studio and start recording our EP but that would require all the members of the band to actually get on and do it rather than just saying we will for about 6 months. Over and out.

Updates and Recent Giggage

Posted by Sharny on February 6, 2010

Howdy everyone. A few updates from us here at Opium Toad. First of all we're now registered on Reverbnation. This was mainly so we could use their widget to put up some tracks on the website. If you head over to the music page then you'll be able to listen to one of our songs, Lying Awake. Others are available on the myspace but unfortunately Reverbnation has quite a low storage limit so I'm going to have to get around that to upload the rest of our tracks, possibly by sacrificing a bit of quality.

I know I've been promising an EP for quite a while but with any luck that is going to be our focus now, we have four songs, easily enough to get an EP down, we're just looking at different studios and possibilities at the moment.

Earlier this week we played down at the Maze in Nottingham. Great times as always. We are as always open to any chances to play live, drop us a message anywhere you like if you're interested.

That's it for now, here's hoping we get that EP sorted soon as that's when things really kick off...I hope...

Merry Christmas/New Year and Facebook Page

Posted by Sharny on December 31, 2009

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Opium Toad.

More importantly, we've finally made ourself a Facebook page which is probably something we should have done a while ago since no one actually uses myspace for anything other than music promotion. No one who values their eyesight anyway.

Currently we've not got anything booked for January but we'd like to have, get in touch over on the gigs page for contact details. If we're not playing however we're going to be writing, at least as soon as our drummer gets back from Norway.
Till next time, enjoy the festive season.

A fun evening at the Admiral Rodney

Sunday was our first gig with the current line up, thanks to everyone who made it down, we hope you had a good time. We definitely enjoyed it and it was great to get back out there. The only downer on the occasion was Code:68's last minute drop out due to their drummer leaving them, we wish them the best at finding someone new and hopefully they'll be back on gigging form soon so we can check them out as well.

We're keen to keep up the performing so if you're in need of a band for just about anything in the Nottingham area give us a shout via the gigs page or via our myspace. In the meantime we're back to writing and we've got a lot to be working on so expect new stuff appearing in the coming months.

November Giggage

Posted by Sharny on October 21, 2009

So as it stands right now we're going to playing our first gig with current line up on the 8th of November at the Admiral Rodney Pub in Southwell. We're gonna be playing alongside The Wicked End, Solution Against and Code:68. It should be a fun and relaxed Sunday evening show. Hopefully we'll see some of you out there.

More demo action

Yep, we've got some more tunage up on the myspace in the form of Honour, Glory, Death. It's a very different song to our others up there, just to confuse you guys even more to what we're doing. We have actually settled more on a feel but since this song was already finished we decided to record it and get it out there, just to show that we're capable of spanning our genre even more than is necessary...

Enjoy it, we've got more songs coming up and soon our first gigs with the current line up which will be up here once confirmed.

Writing towards our EP

Posted by Sharny on July 28, 2009

So we've pretty much recovored from our line up change and are back into writing again. We recently uploaded a bedroom recording of our latest song Lying Awake to the myspace.

We've got another two songs in the works, at different stages of development, with one just requiring a few lyrics and the other needing a bit more work. These songs plus maybe another will make up our first EP, hopefully to be recorded sometime this year in the studio. So look out for more songs coming up on the myspace in the coming months and look out for our EP towards the end of 2009 or early 2010.

Back in business

So I'm back from America and although there has been silence when it comes to this website the rest of the band have been busy writing and there is a steady flow of music coming from us.

Unfortunately during my time away we lost our singer, Taylor, and so at least for the moment I'm going to be stepping up to do at least the majority of our vocals. We're still on the lookout for a vocalist mind you so give us a shout if you're interested. Email or via our myspace would be perfect.

Expect to see some further activity from us in the coming months, we have to bring ourselves back up to a performing standard with our new vocals but once we do we're going to be on the lookout for gigs and getting back into playing.

Note that I've taken down the forum, I failed to realise that it had become completely overtaken by spambots and so lost myself some money in bandwidth there. Oh well, what kind of band needs a forum anyway...

Newsification

An explanation for the lack of news is probably due, it's basically because I'm in the US working the ski season and since I'm the only one that posts any news this has resulted in the current radio silence.

I've only just got the laptop on which I am currently typing this so I am a little less informed than I would like but sadly Opium Toad's big Monday Mayhem gig got canceled due to all of the other bands dropping out which rather sucks. On a more positive note, a final-ish version of Fires in the Sky has been up on the myspace for quite a while now but deserves a mention.

For now I think we're pretty eager to get out there and get playing so if anyone is interested, head over to the gigs page and drop us a line.
